Greetings from Iraq!

I received this photo from my friend Brookline Firefighter Dave McCann. His nephew, Andrew Haas pictured on the top left, is serving in Iraq and members of his unit are holding the BRFD shirt. I hope everyone keeps these heroes in their thoughts and prayers everyday!

Terrible Accident at Trader Joe's

Just about 11:40am this morning, I heard an urgent radio call from a police officer regarding a pedestrian struck in the Trader Joe's parking lot in the rear of 1317 Beacon Street. A 29 year old parking attendant was struck by an elderly driver pinning him between that vehicle and an SUV. The victim's leg was wrapped around the wheel well and Brookline Firefighters used the JAWS and other extrication tools to free him. Responding was Engine 5, Tower 1 and Ladder 2 under the command of Deputy Chief Rob Ward. Great job by the Jakes and Police Officers as usual and that sentiment was echoed by the several bystanders at the scene. A welcome relief to hear GOOD things being said about our 1st Responders in Brookline!!

2 Alarm Fire in Brookline

Brookline Firefighters made quick work of a 2 alarm fire at 1160 Boylston Street in Chestnut Hill just after 5am this morning. Engine 6 and Ladder 4 were orginally dispatched for a Central Station alarm and the box assignment was filled after the fire was discovered. A 2nd alarm was ordered by Deputy Chief O'Connell bringing Boston and Newton companies to the fire which involved 3 businesses on a 2.5 story wood frame. The cause is under investigation.
