LaGuardia Plane Crash

Just watching the live news feeds from New York where a US Airways plane crash landed in the Hudson River. No serious injuries and no fatalities. Hats off to that pilot. A definite HERO!

Reflections

Well, Kevin Kelley was buried yesterday and the Funeral Mass was attended by thousands of Firefighters from across the country. I was a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to helping others. The real heroes out of this tragedy are Kevin's family. I have never seen such courage as I did on their faces. My friends Pat Travers of the Whitman FD and Dave Stewart of the Needham FD took some fantastic and moving photos.

The weather is dangerously cold outside and many warnings to prevent frostbite have been issued. Of course this means fire activity is up. Melrose, Braintree and Hanson all had serious fires overnight. Lynn had a 4th alarm on Lewis Street yesterday. I will be out and about soon and trust me Dunkin Donuts will be my best friend over the next few days.

Rollover In Brookline

Just after 9am this morning I responded to a rollover accident on Hammond Street opposite Pine Road. Fire Dispatch reported one person trapped in the car. The car missed a large tree by not much. He was transported to the Beth Israel Hospital. As with all photos on the blog, click on the image to view the full size photo.

Foundry Explosion in Braintree

Just about 11:40am, an explosion at Wollaston Alloys at 205 Wood Road in Braintree blew out the front and side windows and injured several workers. The company specializes in high tech castings. Apparently a chemical reacted with another substance causing the explosion. At least 6 workers were transported to local hospitals with non life threatening injuries.
