On the hottest day of the year, Newton Jakes battled a 3 alarm fire at 393 Newtonville Avenue late yesterday afternoon. The fire came in about 5:45pm and first due companies had heavy fire conditions in the basement. All occupants made it out safely but Firefighters had to rescue several pets including birds and a cat. I made it there late but hey you can't make them all!
