Relying on Sources

I responded to a reported police involved shooting in West Newton earlier tonight after receiving the call in my pager. The ride took about 20 minutes and I expected to see a lot of activity but what I found was a few cruisers parked on a side street and some news teams. Come to find out that the incident was only a person that had run from the police after a routine car stop. No pursuit, no shooting and no drama. However, at the time I was standing on a dark street with nothing going on, a real shooting occured in Roslindale which would have been about a 7 minute response for me. Lesson learned is rely on verified information before going on a wild goose chase. Hats off to fellow photographer Mike Flynn for getting the Rozzie photos.

yeah, i usually dont bother. unless i hear explosions. nothing like 30 minutes of cruiser-time spent driving around looking looking for the source of a firework explosion, the perpetrators long since scattered.

and the phone ringing off the hook @ the dispatchers, if a real emergency had occured i cant help but think theres a lot of 'i heard sometihng go boom' calls to wade thru

something to think about before you set off high powered 'imported from north carolina' firecrackers, kids
