Waban Square Car vs Building

Newton Jakes responded to the Waban Hair Salon on Beacon Street for a car vs. a building. Minor injuries were reported and some structural damage to the store. Ironically this occured right across the street from yesterday's fire. Waban is very quiet usually so the residents are kind of uppity about the recent activity.

Fires and Cold Hit Brookline and Newton

New Year's Eve was a busy one for Brookline Firefighters. About 7:15 last night Box 445 was struck for a large house fire at 83 Penniman Place. The first floor was fully involved on arrival and quickly took possession of the house which was a historic landmark. Frozen hydrants and poor access was a problem for the jakes.

This morning about 9:30 the city of Newton battled a house fire at 448 Woodward Street. Fire started in the basement and worked it's way up through the house. Bitter cold wind chills at both fires. Where is spring? I'm going to thaw out before the next one comes in.

Farewell 2008 Welcome 2009

So 2008 is on the way out and we are currently in the middle of a big snowstorm. Boston had a 3 alarm fire about 10am on Tuttle Street in Dorchester. I did not venture in due to the snow starting to pile up on the roads. Accidents are being reported all over the place.

2009 should prove to be an interesting year. I take office as the President of the International Fire Photographers Association tomorrow and have been working my butt off for 2 months trying to get the Associations's affairs in order. So far so good and hopefully things will run smoothly. I have a great team so it should be fun once we get on solid ground.

I hope everyone has a safe and fun time celebrating New Year's Eve and that 2009 will be good to you. A special thanks to my friends and colleagues for making 2008 a fun year. Thanks to Pat Travers, Dave Stewart, Dave Weimer, Jack Carr, Bill Noonan, Katie Cook, Keith Flaherty, and many more. Extra special thanks to my parents and my sister Joanne. They are my inspiration and my best friends. I only hope I have lived up to your expectations over the years.
