Massachusetts Ice Storm

Adding to my post from yesterday regarding weird New England weather, last night most of the state got hammered with ice and rain. Here in Boston we got close to 4" of rain but north and west of the city got the freezing rain and ice. Many areas are without power due to downed trees taking power lines with them. Other areas have flooding from streams that reached bankfull amounts of water.

Right now it is fairly warm out and the rain has stopped but the temperatures are predicted to drop to the teens and 20s tonight which means the roads will become a skating rink. Massachusetts drivers are not really the best but they all seems to come out when the road conditions are bad resulting in bad accidents. With Christmas shopping, holiday parties and people just not staying home like they should I can just imagine what is going to happen tonight. Maybe, just maybe, people will stay in and watch a movie tonight and travel when the roads are clear. In any case, my work goes on and if something happens, I will be there.

Sometimes You Just Keep Driving

Newton is currently working a ceiling collapse at the Atrium Mall on Route 9. A 100x50 section of the suspended ceiling and sprinkler pipes fell down on about 4 or 5 cars. The Atrium is about a 5 minute drive for me so I took a ride. It started pouring rain while I was on Hammond Pond Parkway and as I approached the Mall from the Florence Street side the traffic was jammed. I slowly drove past the mall and there was nothing visible to take photos of from the outside so I just kept on driving. No injuries from what I am hearing on the scanner just a woman who was shaken up a bit. I can't blame her for that! So here I am at home listening for the "Big One" and wondering what to do for lunch.

Great Work by Brookline Police

Yesterday afternoon I heard a police broadcast about an armed robbery in Framingham and that the suspect vehicle was seen in Brookline. I was half heartedly paying attention when I heard a Brookline cruiser state he had the vehicle in sight and was going to make the stop at Amory Park. This is an unusual incident and seeing as I was close, I decided to respond and take some photos of what I could. Hint to those who commit crimes and decide to drive through Brookline...don't do it! Brookline cops are everywhere and will get you!

Traffic, No Parking and Trees

Yesterday started out busy. A 4 alarm fire in Cambridge on Lexington Avenue came in about 8:15am. Of course everything was going fine until I crossed over the BU Bridge into the People's Republic and traffic was at a standstill. Managing to finally make it to Brattle Street the challenge was finding to find a place to park. Well it ended up about 1/2 a mile from the scene and I began to walk to the scene. The old saying 3 strikes and your out? Gotta love TREES in your way of the scene. Oh well, just another day in Cambridge.
